About IRA BO

IRA BO is a Swiss/Australian artist. She creates contemporary objects, sculptures and installations inspired by the age-old craft of textile creation. By merging the archaic act of weaving with modern references and materials, she offers a bold, almost brutalist, perspective on universal themes such as life, construction, materiality and circularity. Her work emphasizes texture, repetition, asymmetry and conceptual intent. By employing repurposed materials - often found on construction sites - IRA BO challenges conventional ideas of beauty and the actual value of materials. Her raw work directly engages with the complexities that shape and inform the human experience: growth, transformation, cultural connection. By translating these complex ideas into visual and spatial experiences, her work carries memory, attention and presence, and is intricately hand-woven to evoke both the fragility and resilience inherent in the fabric of life itself.
